Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are excellent for supporting sales and marketing in the form of virtual product presentations. Softability provided CTN Group with a mobile augmented reality application and a virtual reality application to be used with Oculus Quest 2 VR glasses. The applications were made to facilitate presentation of the new CTN eCabin cryo chamber. CTN Group is a Finnish company that develops, manufactures, and sells cryotherapy devices and accessories worldwide.

“We have long considered using VR and AR apps as sales tools. We put off the solution until 2021 because we had looked at the technology in previous years and weren’t fully satisfied with its functionality. The equipment we needed for it was still a little clunky and relatively expensive. Last year we finally came to the conclusion that now is the right time to make this investment,” explains J-P Martins, Business Development, CTN Group.

AR and VR are effective sales tools

It is often hard work and extremely difficult, sometimes even impossible, to present and move large products or devices, such as the CTN eCabin. Augmented and virtual reality provide an easy and cost-efficient way to “transport” the devices to the customer’s premises. It is easy to place a lifelike and realistically sized virtual product or device in the right area and present its features and functionalities.

In the CTN eCabin application, the device can be moved and turned, and the device’s performance can be demonstrated by turning on cryotherapy. The application allows the user to make the outer cover of the device transparent to show the cryomachinery and monitor the person receiving cryotherapy. The application can also be used to change the background video shown during the eCabin treatment to suit your preferred mood. Augmented and virtual reality applications have similar functionalities, but in a VR application, the experience takes place in an entirely virtual environment.

“We began the project with our latest product, which has not yet been launched on the market. As expected, we noticed that the application was an effective sales tool very soon after we began to use it. As the device in question is rather large, transporting it to the customer’s premises is often challenging, and customers find it difficult to perceive how suitable the device is for its intended location. Using an AR application makes concrete presentation quick and effective. The benefits of the application are further emphasized if it is used abroad and in larger distributor countries, where there are sometimes great distances between the importer’s showroom and the end customer. We will also incorporate the AR application into our international distributors’ toolkits,” says Martins.

In addition to product presentation, augmented and virtual reality are also an excellent option for training. The technology enables a safe and cost-effective method that can be used anywhere and at any time to practise product awareness, device functionality, and sales situations. Augmented reality is used on mobile devices or with smart glasses by adding virtual elements to the real environment, while in virtual reality the entire operating environment is virtual.

“We will extend this family of applications to our other devices, and another objective is to deploy the AR application to our after-sales service team worldwide. The application can be used to train distributors’ maintenance staff in various countries in an extremely flexible and cost-efficient way,” adds Martins.

“Collaboration with Softability has been smooth and effective. They have kept to their schedules and provided professional and flexible service throughout the entire project. We would recommend Softability without hesitation to anyone considering similar projects.”
