HeadPower Oy relies on Softability’s AR technology expertise!

Nora Nirhamo | 2020/05/13

Softability developed an augmented reality application for HeadPower Oy to improve the quality and efficiency of the company’s end customers’ work, as well as customer communication. The primary target group for the application was infrastructure network designers. Network designers have to use many different tools in their work when trying to agree with the landowners on the details of the equipment installations.

Softability developed an augmented reality application for HeadPower Oy for improving the quality and efficiency of the company’s end customers’ work, as well as customer communication. HeadPower Oy provides Finnish cloud services for infrastructure network companies.

The application enables network designers to virtually place for example transformers and distribution cabinets in planned locations in the real environment. “As a primary target group, we identified infrastructure network designers, who have to use a wide range of tools in their work. In their work, it is challenging to connect the line drawing on the map to the real world and engage in a clear dialogue with different parties.”, says Toivo Nivala, HeadPower´s product manager.

Augmented reality makes it easier for network designers to design solutions and visualize, for example to landowners, how the end result will look like in the real environment. Designers are able to place transformers and distribution cabinets of different sizes, as well as marker and warning poles in the terrain with the application. The application can also measure distances, for example when checking the permissible distances of components to buildings. The placement and viewing angle of components can be controlled with the application, and photographs of objects can be taken to support communication and installation.

“We had tested the functionality of the concept using existing platforms and tools, so we had precise definitions of the functions required. Softability understood our needs correctly and they had a clear vision of how to develop the application. The implementation of the project was straightforward and it was completed really quickly without any surprises. We liked that Softability informed the customer about the budget and schedule situation, and always brought out the finished application without bugs.”, says Nivala.

The HeadPower AR application is available as a free download for Android mobile devices from the Google Play Store. The application uses Google ARCore technology, which requires ARCore support from a mobile device.

“The delivered application corresponded to our defined needs and looks really great. We can strongly recommend Softability’s services.”
