Teaching operators around Europe came to European Vocational Skills Week explore how technology is utilized in education in Finland. Softability was there together with Perho, presenting the virtual learning environment. Our cooperation with Perho started originally when we created a virtual learning environment HoloLens application for Perho, and this application will be developed further in the future based on Perho´s projects and needs.
Technology as a part of teaching
Technology has been used already to a degree in teaching, but it ́s full potential has not been recognized yet. Schools like Perho are pioneers in this field, who are bravely experimenting different ways to take advantage of technology in their teaching methods.
Perho’s virtual learning environment produces three-dimensional learning experience and interaction, which then creates deeper memory trace in student and learning becomes more efficient. Smart glasses also enable remote support so student and teacher can discuss with each other in real-time using a video and audio connection while sharing the same three-dimensional view of the study or other material at the same time. Virtual learning environment also works as a platform for storing, sharing and presenting the study material.
Technology enables utilization of the data gathered from the virtual learning environment to improve teaching and learning. For example, all the data how the student is using the application (clicks, gaze, speech, spend time) can be stored in the application if the student is using a profile. Student´s interests and possible learning difficulties can be decoded from the same data. By benefiting this user data teaching material can be optimized to support higher level of efficient learning.
