Thermo Fisher Scientific Relies on Softability in Product Development

Hanna-Kaisa Jauhola | 2017/05/26

Thermo Fisher Scientific and Softability have successfully cooperated for 15 years. There is an open and trusted partnership between the companies. “Softability’s software developers play an important role in many product development projects”, says Elisa Hirvensalo (in the picture) from Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Successful cooperation for 15 years

Thermo Fisher Scientific has long relied on its software partner Softability. The cooperation has continued for 15 years and there is a close, open and trusted partnership between the companies. Softability’s software developers have participated in several challenging product development projects at Thermo Fisher Scientific, and developed firmware and UI software for analyzers and instruments for laboratory and research purposes.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is the world’s leading provider of analytical equipment, chemicals, reagents, supplies and services for research, product development and diagnostics. Thermo Fisher Scientific Oy employs more than 500 people in Vantaa and over 55,000 people worldwide.

Product development and software for advanced laboratory equipment

Thermo Fisher Scientific has been in need of a software partner in its R&D projects, and Softability has been able to meet Thermo Fisher’s diverse resource and competence needs by providing professional and experienced experts for software development and testing.

– The product development of analytical devices suitable for analyzing samples, requires software developers to have industry knowledge, versatile expertise and guaranteed quality. Softability’s software developers have been able to provide that to us, says Elisa Hirvensalo. She is the manager of a Software Development team at Thermo Fisher Scientific and responsible for software development and system testing.

– In my project Softability’s experts have developed a user interface for Multiskan™ Spectrophotometer, which is a reader device used for analyzing DNA, RNA and protein samples, says Hirvensalo.

Softability’s software developers have also played an important role in many other Thermo Fisher product development projects, such as the development of KingFisher™ systems. Softability’s people have been involved in implementing firmware and UI for the KingFisher™ product family used for DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and purification.

Benefits of long partnership

Hirvensalo says that she has very good experiences with Softability’s software developers. – They play an important role in my team and they are integrated into our work community like our own employees. It is a great benefit for us that Softability’s experts have been involved in Thermo Fisher projects for a long time because they are familiar with our products and applications. They have important key competences and in-depth understanding of our needs. We are dependent on them. We know that we can get guaranteed quality cost-effectively without risks, says Hirvensalo.

– As a customer, I feel that our needs are taken into account, and we are always offered the best solution for us. I appreciate the open and trusted relationship with Softability. We are very pleased with the cooperation and it’s a good basis to continue working together.
