VR/AR applications shown at HUS VR Lab
Softability is one of the companies presenting AR/MR solutions at HUS Virtual Reality Laboratory at Biomedicum (4th floor). HUS (The Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa) is among the first in the world to open virtual reality laboratory and introduce virtual and augmented reality solutions at the hospital campus, where healthcare pfofessionals and public audience can experiment VR/AR applications designed for heathcare and medical use.
− It is very unique that we can bring virtual reality and mixed reality companies together to the hospital campus to present their future healthcare applications. This enables hospital staff to get to know the future solutions during or after the working day, says Petra Havisalo, Project Coordinator of HUS VR Lab.
The companies at HUS VR Lab present their future healthcare solutions e.g. VR/AR applications tailored for patient rehabilitation, surgeries, medcial imaging and sample analysis. The following companies are present at HUS VR Lab: BetterDay Innovation, Softability, Disior Bonelogic, Peili Vision, Adesante.
− The selected companies are health technology startups and growth companies, who are keen to develop virtual reality applications that serve patients and healthcare professionals, says Havisalo.
Softability & Thermo Fisher Scientific at HUS VR Lab
Softability is showcasing at HUS VR Lab a demo application that was made for Thermo Fisher Scientific to operate Varioskan™ LUX multimode microplate reader through a virtual user interface with Microsoft HoloLens device.
Varioskan LUX microplate reader device is designed for research use in bioscience and research loboratories. Varioskan LUX analyzes samples by measuring wavelengths with different technologies (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence) and is used for example in drug development research, cell research, bacterial measurement, DNA/RNA measurement, protein assays and antibody assays.
The HoloLens demo application provides a virtual user interface (UI) to operate Varioskan LUX device and display the results. The user, wearing HoloLens, can use the device with gestures and choose the right assay (e.g. ELISA or DNA-assay). Varioskan LUX device measures and analyzes the results in compliance with the selected protocol. When the assay is completed the HoloLens application displays the results on a virtual 3D microplate as a multicolored graphical hologram. The communication between the Varioskan LUX and HoloLens happens with gestures over the Wi-Fi conneciton.
